Knitted Work of Art

I had planned a cycling trip over to the Gallery in Torridon yesterday and hoped the weather would be okay. Here in the west of Scotland and it's been sunny and mild. The sky was cloudless and blue, the views were amazing across the loch. Far better weather than I had hoped for my trip.

While I was over at the Gallery in Torridon I met up with the lovely artist Lisa O'Brien. She has a studio there where she works in mixed media. I usually enjoy looking around her studio which is open to the public.

However, yesterday, it was a knitted masterpiece not her art work that caught my attention. Lisa showed me a Kaffe Fassett jacket her mother knitted for her 20 years ago. It was still looking amazing. Lisa was persuaded to remove her painters smock put on the jacket and let me take a photo.

The main body of the jacket is a black and white design with feature borders of beautiful colour work. The colours still pop out and look stunning. In my mind I tried to calculate the amount of time, skill and patience her mother had put  into this lovely garment.

The colour borders are highlighted by a striking sky blue. The yarn was from Rowan and looks very much like the fine tweed they are still producing.

On the journey back home I pondered about a knitted cardigan project I started nearly twelve months ago and still haven't finished. I resolved to dig it out from the back of a cupboard where it has been neglected and start work.

Was I a little envious of the knitted masterpiece?
Yes, definitely!
